Sachiko Nakama
Principal and design director
Draws the first concept for every project herself and stays on it through the drawing set.
About the studio
Nakama Pettiford began as a drawing table and a truck. Sachiko Nakama designed; Woodrow Pettiford built. They kept finding that the work went better when each saw the other's problem early.
Today the studio is twelve people: designers, project managers and carpenters who work out of one office in Bend. We take on a small number of projects at a time so the people who draw yours are the people who build it.

The studio
Principal and design director
Draws the first concept for every project herself and stays on it through the drawing set.
Principal and builder
Reads each drawing set for how it will be built before anyone prices it.
Senior designer
Runs selections and design review, and keeps the drawings current as choices are made.
Project manager
Writes the build price and the week-one plan, then runs the schedule on site.
Lead carpenter
Leads the carpenters who frame, trim and finish, and walks each room at the end of the first week.
What you can hold us to
The first number you see is built from drawings of your house, not from a rate.
Every price lists what it leaves out, so nothing is a surprise at the first invoice.
If a project doesn't need a design phase, we'll tell you who can do it better.
A first conversation is the way in.
